Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by previous exposure to asbestos. In this disease, malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body's internal organs. Its most common site is the pleura(outer lining of the lungs and internal chest wall), but it may also occur in the peritoneum(the lining of the abdominal cavity), the heart, the pericardium(a sac that surrounds the heart) or tunica vaginalis. Mesothelioma has been around since the turn of the century. The real problem started to occur during WWII in the Naval ship yards, people who worked in mines, and many other trades. Most people who developed mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or they have been exposed to asbestos dust and fiber in other ways. Washing the clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos can also put a person at risk for developing mesothelioma. Unlike lung cancer, there is no association between mesothelioma
This is a picture of Mare Island Naval Station in Vallejo, CA. This is just one of the many sites through out the United States of America were mesothelioma has been reported. Many brave men and women risked their lives building ships for this great country. Now is the time this country took good care of those same people. Remember one thing, Mesothelioma is like a computer virus, "It never stops to grow", unless you fight it! Fight the companies and establishments that have caused you pain and suffering. Seek the legal advise you deserve. Get the facts to get the compensation you deserve!
Mesothelioma is still a very rare form of cancer. How rare you might ask? Well, to say that only 2,000 cases have been reported annually in the United States says enough. www.MesotheliomaLegalAid.com recommends its readers to check out the links page for further readings on this topic.
